Guttate Psoriasis Treatment

Guttate psoriasis can be found in adults or children and manifests as red, small, drop-shop lesions to the arms, legs and trunk that are covered over with silvery scales. It is not the commonest form of psoriasis, has genetic links and is liable to occur following a respiratory infection or strep throat in people under 30. It is non-contagious and you can readily find effective guttate psoriasis treatment for the condition.

As with other types of psoriasis there is usually a trigger, in this case it is a respiratory infection or strep throat. Such a trigger causes auto-antibodies to form against the skin that results in an increase in the rate of skin growth and the sloughing off of the cells. There are other triggers such as bacterial or viral infections, some types of skin injury such as a burn, bite or cut, excessive exposure to the sun, autoimmune conditions and quite a few more.

Symptoms include itching, red, scaly spots and pain and discomfort for some.

This type of psoriasis typically clears on its own in around three months, so is transient in nature. However, there are some good guttate psoriasis treatment products that will speed up the removal of the lesions. Hydrocortisone cream or lotion when applied to the affected areas will ease any inflammation and slow down the rate of skin cell growth. Danduff shampoo will also help with the scales. At night try a coal tar preparation but remember to wear old clothes and to protect your linen as not only will it be smelly, coal tar preparations will stain as well. Shower and moisturise in the morning as usual.

As with any psoriasis, the use of pure, natural moisturisers will help with your guttate psoriasis treatment. Go for creams rather than lotions as these are less likely to contain alcohol which will dry the skin. Some creams contain Vitamin D or A that will help to shorten the timespan and curtail the rate of excessive skin cell production.
